Ormond Beach & Daytona, FL 10/27-29

We stayed three days at Tomoka State Park in Ormond Beach and were surprised by how peaceful it was so close to Daytona. The park’s name honors the Timucua, the original inhabitants who once lived here, and it does an excellent job educating visitors about their heritage.

The park is within an aquatic marsh preserve and is a very unique and important ecosystem (salt water meets with freshwater) We also discovered a kind of trout we had never heard of. A sea trout! Who knew?!

The main reason for our longer stop was to visit my cousin Jessica, and we had such a great time catching up! We got to see her beautiful new house and spend some time with her husband too. And best of all, I got to meet the baby squirrel 🐿️ she rescued! He’s living outside now but still comes by for visits, and I was so lucky to be there when he stopped in for some treats.
