We went to see the gravesite of “Hi Jolly” in Quartzsite. Hadji Ali (Hi Jolly was his nickname) was a Syrian camel driver who was hired in 1856 by the Army for experiments with creating a sort of “Camel Corps” during the Civil War.
I also went on a camel ride!!! Ok, so it was in a couple little loops in a dirt parking lot but I rode a camel!! His name is Shock Top
